STREET statements

I really like the energy and feeling in small street statements. In public spaces, using visual techniques as simple as chalk, topical, non-permanent and often very personal.and human.

Random positive statements

A mix of messages.

Street ART

LOCAL art - in a quest to see great street art ,signage and graphics, I stood on a street corner in Fortitude Valley Brisbane and said I will only venture two streets in either direction and come back with amazing pics. The fruit of my search in those few streets was amazing .

Retail car park graphics really tell a story'

Narrow passage between buidings becomes an event.

Very powerful commercial car park image

These are up scale images , my next post from the same walk will show some of the intimate and personal statements found.

THE GREAT WALL

We walk and drive past these little masterpieces of built form everyday. Built by local councils, from local stone.

STREET ARCHITECTURE- just around where I live

Brisbane Porphyry - definitely the favourite

Bluestone - common but looks great.

SIMPLY shelter

Really interesting to hit the street and just see the different and very relevant focus used in designing the old school carports/shelters.
Here are a couple near where I live - less definitive architecture, more light weight, inexpensive shelters, that become almost a landscape element .

Home for a valued friend.

Transparency is really effective

BIG week

It's been a massive week - design is always a consuming passion, and last week got consumed.

But now i'm back on track .
Just look at this image and you can be sure - anything is possible !!

POP UP RETAIL

VERY TEMPORARY ARCHITECTURE

It has to be fast, literally overnight, unexpected, and fresh.
Pop up certainly is dynamic and usually in a high traffic area which would mean the pop up / knock down architecture employed would need to be really well considered.
I love the experimental feel, clever use of space, and use of common materials.

I haven't designed a pop up but would love the experience. If you have and would like to share the experience, please let me know about yours.

IS THERE SUCH A THING AS BEST BUILDING ?

NO......BUT THIS ONE IS PRETTY GOOD !!

Great architecture is both artistic and scientific, the old team form and function, however, beyond all reason, we have favourites. Maybe they are not the best works ever seen, but for a strange variety of reasons known only to ourselves certain buildings mean a lot to us.
This is one for me !!

Tod's building Omotesando Ave. Tokyo - Completed in 2004
Architect - Toyo Ito
A seven storey building with a smooth fascade of concrete and glass, working with the shapes of the advanced Elm trees planted along the avenue at front.
Nature again is one of designs best friends.
